WOLFGANG KELKE, Master Pastry Chef, is the King of Cakes. His passion for culinary excellence has seen him work in some of the world's finest restaurants and cake shops. With a wealth of technical expertise, he combines traditional artisan baking methods with family recipes. This unique blend results in the delicious traditional cakes, breads and pastries that come out of the King of Cakes ovens.

Using authentic German and Bavarian recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation and his own secret blend of spices, the aromas and tastes of Wolfgang’s treats will invigorate your soul.

Wolfgang’s love affair with baking began when he was a young child, learning from his parents in the family café. Wanting to learn as much as possible, he went on to complete his baking apprenticeship with honours while working in one of Munich's leading cake shops, Café Arzmiller.

His thirst for broader experience propelled him to work with Feinkost Käfer, a leading German catering and fine foods company. This passion for culinary excellence continued to drive him forward and so Wolfgang took off to travel the world. He picked up work in London and Bermuda before returning home to Munich to take up a position as the Executive Pastry Chef for Movenpik.

His obsession to produce quality cakes of artistic perfection didn't waver and so he took his career to the next level and went back to school in Munich. Within a year he had completed his master certificate "Meisterbrief" with honours once again. These qualifications and Wolfgang’s passion for perfection, opened many new doors and opportunities including scoring a position as the Head Pastry Chef for another leading bakery in Munich.

With an impressive list of qualifications and experience, Wolfgang decided it was time to introduce his craft to the rest of the world. He and his family chose to settle down in Brisbane where he opened the doors to his first cake shop in Taringa in April 1990. They haven't looked back since.

There are now three King of Cakes shops across Brisbane all using traditional techniques and recipes under Wolfgang's direction. He proudly states he is an Australian but his heritage will always be German and those traditions and passions will continue to influence his product creations and culinary excellence for our enjoyment.

Cakes are our passion, from the famous Black Forest Torte with layers of chocolate sponge, kirsch flavoured cream chocolate mousse and sour cherries to the Pischinger Torte, where the lightest of chocolate sponge is layered between a smooth hazelnut buttercream and hazelnut meringue. With a texture that’s soft yet slightly crunchy, a hint of Baileys liqueur and a covering of a light chocolate glaze, it’s easy to see why this is a fan favourite.
